Out West in the Old West
OUT WEST IN THE OLD WEST by Jim Cacos
"Tetched in the head: I'd better get out of the hot sun," Gabby Hayes concluded once, in some old, grainy Western. He had been a foil to Roy and Dale--- an old coot who never felt the compulsion to maintain law and order and righteousness, as did Roy, who with Trigger, had to perpetuate the principle of virtue, never vice. Vice was written all over the mugs of those wearing the black hats. They somehow had it easier than most of us here today, saddled up with principles, looking to do the right thing every time it is time to strike that pose. Like Roy. Gabby had the virtue of his advanced years, along with his toothless grin: A sufficiency all its own. We've got none of the above. We are here below, merely sorting things out, here back East.
