Watching my mother

Watching my mother
by Carolyn Boll

storm watch
out to sea
I watch
and see
time and the eternal

my watch
an eternity
now and
minute by minute
its blue face
round and
flat like
Columbus thought
the world
was and
over the
edge you’d
go sweeping

through time

unable to
come back
lost at sea

tick tock

was it
a matter
of time
mad like she

tick tock

I have
somewhere
to be
